Back in 2012 the original Al’s Merlot was dedicated to the message of Al Green’s music. Love, happiness and soul.

Since then many vintages have been shared with family and friends.

This is the 10th anniversary of the project.

CURRENT VINTAGE

2021 Al’s Merlot

Grapes: Nocton Vineyard Merlot, Coal River Valley, Tasmania

Volume: 4 x 225L old oak barrels

Winemaker: Ricky Evans, Two Tonne Tasmania

Format: 750ml bottles, screw cap

Tasting Notes: A refreshing medium bodied red, with raspberry, Moccona & a Chianti-like grip.

  • PREVIOUS VINTAGES

    🍇 2021 Al's Merlot (McLaren Vale)

Grapes: 80% merlot (Lennon Vineyard), 20% Cabernet (Omensetter Vineyard), McLaren Vale, SA.

Winemaker: Brad Hickey, Brash Higgins Winery

Oak: A single 300L hogshead or 25 dozen

Format: 750ml + 1500ml bottles hand filled by Brad & Al, hand corked by Paige

Label: An original Paige Lusk oil painting

When to drink: The wine was looking so juicy and bright on bottling. Think juicy red plums. Chinese five spice, raspberries and tart blackberries. Drink immediately, even with a slight chill, as a medium bodied wine. The addition of 20% Cabernet will give ageing potential if you don’t get around to it quickly. Drink until 2026.

  • 🍇 2020 Al’s Merlot!

Grapes: 350kg of merlot from Grey Sands Vineyard, Glengarry, Tamar Valley, Tasmania

    Volume: 200L = 90 x 1.5L magnums + 90 x 750ml bottles (approx.)

Winemaker: Ricky Evans, Two Tonne Tasmania

Oak: A single 225L barrel from Peter Dredge (Meadowbank / Brian / Dr. Edge)

The wine looks great, incredibly pretty and aromatic, and will be delicious to drink, however it needs time in bottle! Drink anytime from 2022 - 2030.

  • 🍇 2017 Al's Merlot

Grapes: Bishop Vineyard, Basket Range, Adelaide Hills, SA

    Volume: 300L puncheon

    Winemaker: BK Wines

Bramble, blackberry, dusted cocoa with a delicious crackle of spritz on the tongue.

  • 🍇 2012 Al's Merlot

Grapes: Barratt Vineyard, Bonython Rd, Piccadilly Valley, Adelaide Hills, SA

    Volume: 225L

    Winemaker: BK Wines
